Dental Veneers

We all know how important a first impression can be, and smiles play a huge part in that first impression. A perfectly straight white smile can instill comfort and confidence in your contacts, while misshapen, gapped, or discolored teeth can be startling to those around you. At Town and Country Dental, we understand the stress and anxiety that can be tied to an imperfect smile. That is why we specialize in helping our patients achieve the confidence they deserve.

While you may think that it would take several different procedures and appointments to correct the issues associated with the gapped, misshapen, and discolored teeth, many of our patients are surprised to find that all of these issues can be fixed by the simple placement of porcelain dental veneers.

What are Veneers?

Dental veneers are actually thin strips of a material that is adhered to the front of the tooth. Veneers are typically made of porcelain because it is a durable material that can be colored to match your natural teeth, and it has the same texture and appearance as your natural teeth.

These strips can be attached to the front of the teeth and then shaped to disguise any underlying conditions and also blend naturally with the surrounding teeth. The specialized staff at Town and Country Dental specialize in the placement of veneers on a wide variety of patients with different needs and severity of conditions.

When to Use Veneers

The thin strips of veneers can cover any blemishes or problems with the underlying teeth, but they also help to act as a protective barrier for the teeth to help maintain the underlying tooth structure. However, you may want to consider veneers if you have teeth that are:

  • Chipped

  • Worn down

  • Crooked

  • Misshapen

  • Gapped

  • Stained and cannot be whitened with professional whitening

How Veneers are Placed

While veneers are very thin strips of porcelain, when they are placed directly over the teeth, they can actually make the teeth feel “bulky.” In order to correct this issue, our staff will remove a small amount of the enamel that covers the outside of the tooth. Once the tooth or teeth have been shaped, an impression of your teeth is taken so that your veneers can be created at the lab. This means that your final veneers will be specifically designed for you, so they look and feel like they were made just for you; because they were!

While you wait for those veneers to arrive, your teeth will be fitted with a temporary veneer. While this veneer is not a perfect fit, it will give you a general idea of what your finished product might look like. You usually have to wear these temporary veneers for about two weeks while your permanent veneers are created. Once we have received your permanent veneers, you can come back to the office to receive the final fitting.

At this appointment, the veneers are placed onto your teeth, and the proper adhesive is selected. The adhesive is the substance that actually gives the veneer its color, so it is important to match this to your other teeth. Once our staff is satisfied with the fit of the veneers and they have been trimmed to perfectly match your needs, the veneers permanently adhere to your teeth.

After Care

It is possible to crack or chip your veneers, so you should avoid activities such as eating ice, or biting plastic or other objects that are not designed for consumption. If your veneers do crack or become dislodged, simply schedule an appointment, and we will make sure that we repair your smile as soon as possible.
